Translation Practice Set 1

Translating from German to English can be very tricky.  It takes practice.  Why not give it a try? Next week you will find the key to these exercises here as well so you can check your answers.
 (Be careful in using google translators-they often make big mistakes!)

1. Es freut mich, Sie kennen zu lernen.  Das ist mein Bruder.

2. Wie lautet die Telefonnummer Deiner Grosseltern? Ich weiss sie nicht.

3. Sein Lieblingsfach ist Geschichte, aber auch Mathematik und Geographie gefällt ihm.

4. Meine Mutter geht nie ins Schwimmbad, weil Sie schwimmen hasst.

5. Darf ich Deine Zeitung anschauen?  Nein, tut mir leid. Ich muss gehen.

6. Am Freitag feiern wir ein Fest.  Nein, wir feiern nicht ein Fest, wir gehen ins Theater.

7. Julia hat am 12. März Geburtstag.

8. Mein bester Freund hasst laufen (springen), aber ihm gefällt Schlittschuhlaufen.

9. Der Sommer beginnt am 21. Juni.  Es ist meine bevorzugte Jahreszeit.

10. Sie wohnt bei den Eltern.
